The United Fruit Company’s control over Central America in the early twentieth century shows how a single corporation used money and political connections to dominate an entire region. This topic is important because it demonstrates how power can corrupt governments, remove the voices of workers, and alter societies. Huge amounts of research discuss the political dominance that the United Fruit Company had, but there isn’t much research that focuses on the United Fruit Company’s deliberate control of information. The way I aim to fill this gap is to use credible primary sources that demonstrate in unique ways how the United Fruit Company did this. My project draws on the deep analysis and interpretation of primary sources that discuss the U.S and their relations to the UFC and Latin American governments, maps, and medical records. The end goal of this project is to understand how wealthy corporations manipulate information and how they use that to dominate Central America.
